Yeoman & Kinsman Association

The Boats

The Yeoman & Kinsman are very similar in many respects. Both boats are made using the same hull, deck and nearly all-internal moulds. From the outside they look the same and both have the same sail area and rig. The main difference is that the Yeoman has a fixed keel and the Kinsman is a lift keel trailer sailor.

Kinsman

Is specially designed for those sailors who want a manageable, reasonably priced, lifting keelboat of 6m for family cruising and racing.

The Kinsman with its lifting keel and rudder and easy launch and recover, enables considerable savings on deep-water mooring fees wherever you sail. The robust construction means the Kinsman can “take the ground” on drying out moorings. It can be easily towed by a family car (boat weight around 700Kg), easy to launch and recover from a slipway with its own specially designed trailer; can be parked on your own drive or garden.

The Kinsman uses the same hull and deck unit as the Yeoman but has a lifting keel and rudder. The New 300 series incorporates all the new innovations that have been introduced to the Yeoman. The integral anti swamp seats, five buoyancy tanks, central winch module, mainsheet control module, the new easy use winch to raise and lower the keel, new mast raising and lowering tabernacle and is all GRP construction. The builder has constructed the Kinsman to the very highest standards and it has EU approval status.

This must make the Kinsman one of the safest boats in its class.

The Kinsman has excellent all round performance making it ideal for family use. It is easy to control but has the performance to provide exciting action when racing. It can be raced with either 2 or 3 crew. The class has been highly developed at Rutland Sailing club where it competes at the top level. If buying a used craft and you want to get it to top performance the builder has all the new innovations that can be fitted to ALL old boats. For the latest in tuning mods contact the builder (Phil Betts sails the boat at the highest level of competition) or Tony Hargrove at Rutland SC.

The Kinsman currently enjoys a competitive handicap of PY 1160 (Yeoman 1108).

We invite you to give one a trial sail contact the builder.

Yeoman

Is specially designed for those sailors who want a manageable, reasonably priced, fixed keelboat of 6m for family cruising and racing.

The Yeoman has a fixed keel and Rudder this means the boat draws just under a meter. Most Yeoman are kept in on water moorings others are dry sailed. This means they are kept on road trailers or launching trolleys and craned in for each race/weekend. Yeoman’s are not designed for use with drying out moorings. It is recommended that boats kept in the water are anti-fouled to help prevent build up on the bottom. A Yeoman can be easily towed by the family car (boat weight around 700Kg). To launch a Yeoman you either need a crane or the facilities to launch from a deep slipway.

The Yeoman uses the same hull and deck unit as the Kinsman but has a fixed keel and rudder. The New 300 series incorporates all the new innovations that have been subsequently introduced to the Kinsman. The integral anti swamp seats, five buoyancy tanks, central winch module, mainsheet control module, new mast raising and lowering tabernacle and is all GRP construction. The builder has constructed the Yeoman to the very highest standards and it has EU approval status.
